is a small nursery & farm in north Idaho. We specialize in fragrant and lesser known ornamental, edible & traditionally useful plants which are hardy for northern climates, plus herbal necessities such as handmade soaps, using herbs and flowers from our gardens, woods and fields.
Situated at the confluence of two mountain ranges, our weather swings from -25F in the winter to a brief spell (usually) near 100 in July-August. Thaws may come at any time during the winter, frost any time of the year. Wet snowy winters make us the 'Pacific Coast of Idaho'.
Scented flowers & foliage, night-blooming plants, a vase of luxurious cut flowers for the window sill; we offer all these plants & more, with a special yen for the unusual, the far-flung and the hard-to-find. Cottage garden plants, alpine lovelies, herbs from around the world, exotic fruits all find a place here. Plus, of course, anything blue.
Our selection includes a wide range of Pinks, Thymes, Lavenders, Mints, Primula, species Peonies, Penstemons, species & heirloom Roses, culinary, medicinal, dyers' and perfumers' herbs, Western herbs and flowers and more. Check out our recipes, lore, reading and how-to pages for ideas and tips on cooking with, using and gardening with herbs and fragrant plants. New this year: our blog In Paradise, where we chat about gardening & farming, soapmaking, plant updates, horticultural news etc.
We select plants from our own gardens and from plant explorers who travel the world. Our plants are grown as naturally as possible to provide sturdy, healthy plants ready to thrive in your garden.
We also create handmade soaps using ingredients from the gardens to enchant and soothe as well as a selection of handmade garden gift items featuring our herbs and flowers. Visit our newly updated soap & herbal necessity pages here. We've also updated the site generally to make things a bit easier to find--the recipes, lore, reading and links pages are grouped under 'resources' now.
Our 2008 catalog is on-line here; for a print version, email us for a copy (out of print now, but we will put you on the list for next spring!). The website will always have the newest information on availability & prices. Please check our availability page for updates on plants. Shipping will resume in September. If your email has not been answered, it may have been eaten by our spam filter, please try again (we are working on training the filter!) or drop us a postcard. Our apologies for this inconvenience due to inadequate antispam regulations.
Non-plant items ship year round, subject to availability.
